We take the protection of your personal data very seriously. This privacy policy informs you about the nature, scope, and purpose of the processing of personal data within the framework of our online presence. The processing is carried out in accordance with the applicable data protection regulations, in particular the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Collection and storage of personal data, as well as type, purpose, and use

The term “personal data” refers to any information that relates to you personally. This includes, for example, your name, address, email address, or IP address.

Log files

Each time a user accesses the online services of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, or retrieves a file, certain technical data is temporarily stored and processed in a log file:

  • IP address (this is anonymized immediately after access),
  • Date and time,
  • Accessed page/file name,
  • Amount of data transferred,
  • Notification of successful access/retrieval.

The purpose of data collection is mandatory network protection against attacks, improvement of the website, and generation of usage statistics. The data is stored for one week.

The legal basis for processing this data is Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR (processing necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by the controller).

Cookies

Temporary cookies (so-called session cookies) are used when individual pages are accessed to facilitate navigation. These session cookies do not contain personal data and expire at the end of the session.

Disclosure of data to third parties

Your personal data will not be disclosed to third parties. There is no automated decision-making or profiling. There are no plans to use the data for purposes other than those stated above.

Rights of data subjects

With regard to your personal data, you have the following rights:

  • Pursuant to Article 15 GDPR, to request information about your personal data processed by us;
  • Pursuant to Article 16 GDPR, to request the immediate rectification of incorrect or incomplete data stored by us;
  • Pursuant to Article 17 GDPR, to request deletion of your personal data stored by us (except in cases specified in Article 17(3) GDPR);
  • Pursuant to Article 18 GDPR, to request restriction of processing of your personal data if you contest the accuracy of the data, the processing is unlawful but you oppose deletion, we no longer need the data but you need it to assert, exercise, or defend legal claims, or you have objected to processing pursuant to Article 21 GDPR;
  • Pursuant to Article 77 GDPR, to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. You may contact the authority in your usual place of residence or at our location.

Right to object

As your personal data is processed based on legitimate interests pursuant to Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, you have the right to object to the processing of your personal data at any time for reasons arising from your particular situation, in accordance with Article 21 GDPR.
