Prof. Dr. Adelheid Otto is a West Asian archaeologist working on glyptics, iconography, historical geography and settlement structures of complex societies in Ancient West Asia. Her research combines traditional seal studies with the contextualization of the iconographic analysis in its space and society. She currently leads excavations at Fara (Iraq), where significant sealings from the Early Dynastic Period have been uncovered within administrative contexts. She leads the KIŠIB project and directs the Institute of Near Eastern Archaeology at LMU Munich.
